Data Specialist – Cryosphere, Hydrology and Climate

Asiaq – Greenland Survey offers an exciting opportunity to work with data from Greenland's cryosphere, hydrology and climate systems.

The position is based in our Hydrology, Climate and Environment Department, where a team of 12 scientists and technical specialists will welcome you.

You will join a small and specialised team working closely across disciplines. We value knowledge sharing, professional development and collaboration. 

You will play a key role in Asiaq’s current and future data management initiatives, supporting both operational monitoring and research activities within an applied framework.

Key Responsibilities

As our new Data Specialist, you will contribute to the management, analysis and development environmental datasets. Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing and maintaining data management workflows and databases
• Processing, quality-controlling and analysing hydrological, climatological and glaciological data 
• Automating data handling and operational procedures
• Working with observational and model data and implementing modelling workflows
• Validating Earth observation products and physical model outputs against in-situ data
• Contributing to the development of Asiaq’s long-term data management strategy

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Cryosphere, Hydrology and Climate
• Advanced programming and numerical skills 
• Data analysis and statistical methods, including handling of large datasets
• Mathematical / numerical modelling
• Data and model validation
• Data management, and workflow automation

Education

We expect you to hold a relevant university degree (MSc or equivalent) within data science, geoscience, environmental science, computer science, engineering or a related field. A PhD is considered an advantage.

The position and level of responsibility will be adapted to the successful candidate’s qualifications, skills and experience.

Relocation support, including travel and transport of household goods to and from Greenland in accordance with applicable agreements.
